Nairobi-Road Secondary School was started in February 2010 with only 10 students.
The members of the community approached the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) patron and expressed the desire of the community to start a secondary school to serve the populous eastern periphery of Nakuru municipality.
Though the area has many mushrooming private schools there was no public secondary school. Many parents had to take their children to the public schools in Nakuru town, and with the increasing cost of tuition and transportation, this was becoming prohibitive.
This resulted in the dropping-out of the students before their transition to, or completion of secondary school.
Nairobi-Road Secondary School is located in the Pipeline area, and plays host to one of the largest IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps in Nakuru town.
School-going children from the camp attend classes in the very large primary public schools in the vicinity, amongst them being Nairobi Road, Mburu Gichua, Rhino, Mirugi Kariuki and Madaraka primary schools.
Though the majority of them got marks that qualified them to join secondary school, the opportunities for them to advance Secondary-Schooling were non-existent.
This fact was made evident after, when the school started, three very well-performing and gifted boys joined the school after failure to secure a form-one place for a year. In this time, all they had done was idle in the camp.
